Who would have thought that boondocking for two days would be such an enriching experience in friends made and lessons learned? (How’s that for spin?) Whether it’s the layout of this campground (people walking up and down the little roads) or the fact that with no hook ups/services, people spend more time outside without electronics keeping them inside. We met more people here than in any past campground experience. And many of them came to our aid in important ways.
First, there was the two young women camping across the way who offered me their extra brownies just because. Then, Brenda, a woman close to my age, with her fancy setter of some kind, who just moved into her Bambi (a small Airstream trailer) full time and wanted to engage in conversation every time she walked by. Or, the couple new to the neighborhood who is testing out their trailer before going on a southwest camping trip, who loaned us their extra long water hoses so we could fill up our fresh water tank that dropped to a surprisingly low 33% after just one day. Or, as I was throwing chuck-its to Lily, I passed Sheena and Dan from Augusta, ME camping in an airstream and building a campfire. I opened with “Are you experienced streamers?” I told them our refrigerator was beeping mercilessly and issuing an ominous E-3 error code. They ended up hauling their 200 lb generator into their truck, driving back around the campground to our site, unloading their generator and sitting with us for a half hour while our trailer recharged.
Little did we know the problem was only a temporary fix.
