On the Water at Interlochen: July 8 Day 72

Summer in Michigan is finally hitting its stride and we are in the perfect place to enjoy it. Our site continues to be quiet, private and a few steps to Duck Lake. But, the early afternoon was taken up with an important but too adult-like chore: going to Airstream where they fixed our door which had jammed and was an iffy proposition opening it from inside or outside. So it was kind of urgent that we get that fixed.

I’m grateful they set aside a half hour to fix it and we could be on our way. It’s not always that easy. In fact, it’s never been that easy to get in at the last minute to see an Airstream service tech in the town where you’re staying. Never. But they fixed it with a little WD-40 oil (that and duct tape can fix just about anything). Unfortunately, the trip may have cost us more than the fix (which was free). We toured their 27′ Flying Cloud (ours is 25′) and we began drooling at the added space and the queen bed that allows each person to get out on their side of the bed, which is not our current situation. For now, we’re happy with our 25′ Fiona, but you never know.

Returning to camp, we hung out and talked until my inner pouting kid started acting out. “I want to play!” she screamed. So, I took her down to the beach and rented a kayak. The lake was calm and the late afternoon peaceful. “We” are so glad we did that. Towards the end of the hour, Peter and Lily joined us. I couldn’t quite get Lily to jump on the kayak but maybe next time. Overall, it was a wonderful way to end the day.

Tomorrow, we leave Interlochen and mid-Michigan and head to the Upper Peninsula and west towards Wisconsin. I’m ready to hit the road. This was a relaxing stay (after the first night) but I miss the road action. More tomorrow.
